Coronation Street's Antony Cotton thanked by fans as he shares 'promise' 15 years after starting 'fight'

Coronation Street star Antony Cotton has been thanked by his fans for his continued support of the Armed Forces as he shared a moving message on the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

Royals, world leaders and veterans were seen gathered in Normandy on Thursday (June 6) for a series of ceremonies and events, paying tribute to those who served during the 1944 beach invasion. Events also took place up and down the UK including a special night at the Royal Albert Hall set to air on ITV this weekend.

Antony, who is famed for playing Sean Tully in ITV's Corrie, was among those to attend the concert, titled D-Day 80: Remembering the Normandy Landings, which was hosted by Davina McCall and featured performances from Katherine Jenkins, Emeli Sandé, Lulu and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra conducted by Mike Dixon and Veterans of the Normandy Campaign.

Ahead of attending what will have no doubt been an emotional evening, which ITV viewers can see on Sunday (June 9) at 4pm, Antony took to Instagram to pay his own tribute to those lost and those who still serve in the Armed Forces.

He wrote: "When you go home, Tell them of us and say, For your tomorrow, We gave our today. I wasn’t there, so I can’t possibly know what it was like. But I can imagine. And even that is almost too horrendous to bear. Year after year, I wonder what was going on in your heads, as the chaos exploded all around you. Did the minutes feel like hours?
