Contact made: Everton in talks for "world-class" £28k-p/w signing, it'd be a huge coup - opinion

Everton have been heavily linked with a move for Billy Gilmour over the transfer window, and now a new update has emerged on the club’s pursuit of the player this summer.

According to 90min, Everton remain interested in signing Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour.

As per the report, Frank Lampard is a huge admirer of the midfielder and sources have told the publication that the Toffees remain in talks to sign the player before the transfer window shuts.

Following a relegation scrap at the bottom of the table last season it is no secret that Lampard will be keen to strengthen and improve his squad with new signings this summer, and they are finally starting to get deals over the line for players after a slow start in the window.

Until last week, the Toffees had only completed the free transfer of former Burnley defender James Tarkowski, but have now also landed Dwight McNeil and Ruben Vinagre. Lampard is no stranger to the young Scottish international, giving Gilmour his Premier League debut at Chelsea when he was managing the side back in 2019, so it is no surprise that the now Everton manager is chasing the London club to secure the midfielder’s signature this summer.

Despite being relegated with Norwich City whilst on a season-long loan last season, Gilmour certainly showed a glimpse of his potential and talent whilst occupying a spot in the centre of the pitch at Carrow Road.

Over 24 Premier League appearances, the 21-year-old scored one goal, delivered one assist and created one big chance, as well as making an average of one key pass, 1.7 tackles, 1.2
