Conor McKenna on brink of history as Lions reach AFL Grand Final

Conor McKenna could become just the second player to win both All-Ireland SFC and AFL Premiership titles after the Brisbane Lions beat Carlton in today's preliminary final.

The Tyrone man scored a goal in the 11.13 (79) to 9.9 (63) victory at their home venue of The Gabba and will now have a chance to emulate Tadhg Kennelly of Kerry and the Sydney Swans.

Carlton were 23 points up at the end of the first quarter but Brisbane turned it around in the second and led by three at half-time before pushing on to win. The Eglish man also had three marks and 20 disposals.

The Lions face Collingwood, who beat Greater Western Sydney Giants 58-57, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground next Saturday.

The 27-year-old played for Essendon from 2015-2020 before returning home and winning Sam Maguire with the Red Hands in 2021.

He signed a one-year contract to play for Brisbane this year, which was recently extended to 2025.
