Conor Masterson named Gillingham player-of-the-year for 2023/24 - Ethan Coleman players’ player and Shad Ogie takes young player award

Conor Masterson has been voted Gillingham’s player-of-the-year for 2023/24.

The 25-year-old defender has been a leading scorer for the Gills this season with six goals and also helped the club to 12 clean sheets in his 46 games this season.

Defensive players dominated at the awards, which was unsurprising for a team that have struggled at the top end of the pitch again this season.

Central defender Shad Ogie - a summer signing from Leyton Orient - took the young player-of-the-year award.

The 22-year-old has played 44 games for the team on his debut season for the club.

Defensive midfielder Ethan Coleman was voted by his peers as the players’ player-of-the-year.

Coleman, 24, has made 47 appearances for the Gills this season.

Gillingham’s player-of-the-year event is earlier than normal - with two games of the season still to play.

Victory over Barrow on Saturday maintains the team’s outside play-off chances in League 2 ahead of games against Mansfield Town and Doncaster Rovers.

Scott Malone was awarded the goal-of-the-season award after his goal against Sutton United.

Malone’s 72nd-minute volley was the only one of the match as the Gills picked up maximum points at home.

Academy player-of-the-year is Stan Skipper who is currently out on loan at Isthmian South East side Ashford United.

The 18-year-old made his Gills first-team debut in the EFL Trophy at Portsmouth back in October.

The club’s special achievement award - The Elliot Scally Cup - was awarded to ticket office executive Jo Binks.
