Connacht appoint Australian Rod Seib as new attack coach

Connacht has confirmed the appointment of Australian Rod Seib as their new attack coach for next season.

The 50-year-old joins from Super Rugby side Brumbies, where he previously coached the province's winger Mack Hansen.

Seib will run Connacht's attack, taking over from Mark Sexton who is leaving for Ulster this summer, while the experienced Australian will take the role of senior assistant coach, working under head coach Pete Wilkins.

"We’re thrilled to welcome Rod to Connacht from next season," Wilkins said.

"He brings a wealth of experience at the highest level of southern hemisphere rugby, and his coaching philosophy is well suited to the attacking rugby that we look to play here at Connacht.

"He also has a strong track record of developing young players and helping them fulfil their potential, something that will always be important to us in terms of the model we pursue.

"I look forward to welcoming Rod and his family to the province and I know they’ll be well received by the club and wider community."

The Brisbane native has enjoyed a lengthy coaching career, with head coach roles at Brisbane City and Queensland Country in the Australian National Rugby Championship (NRC).

In 2019 he took control of the Queensland Reds Academy side where he worked with current Connacht wing Byron Ralston before joining the Brumbies the following season where he had Hansen in his side.

Seib stayed at the Canberra franchise when Stephen Lakham returned as head coach in 2022, promoted to senior assistant coach, and the club have finished inside the top four of Super Rugby Pacific across the last three seasons.
