Commonwealth Games: Singapore's Shanti Pereira fails to qualify for women's 100m final

SINGAPORE: Sprinter Shanti Pereira failed to qualify for the 100m final at the Commonwealth Games after clocking a time of 11.57s in the semis on Wednesday (Aug 3).

Pereira's time was slightly slower than Singapore's national record of 11.48s, which she set on Tuesday during the heats.

Pereira finished seventh in the race, which was won by Julien Alfred of St Lucia in a time of 11.04s.

The top two finishers of the three semi-finals, as well as the next two fastest runners across the races, make up the field for the women's 100m final.

The final on Wednesday was won by Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica, who crossed the line in 10.95s.

Earlier this year, Pereira clocked a time of 11.62s to clinch a silver medal in the same event at the 31st Southeast Asian Games. She also won gold in the women's 200m, setting a new national record with a time of 23.52s.
