Colombia shock Germany as co-hosts knocked out in Day 11 drama of the 2023 Women's World Cup

Colombia delivered late drama to defeat Germany 2-1 in a day 11 thriller at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, as Norway and Switzerland booked their places in the last 16.

The Switzerland draw and Norway win was enough to see co-hosts New Zealand knocked out alongside debutants the Philippines.

Manuela Vanegas headed home in extra-time to upset one of the favourites in a famous World Cup shock during the Germany vs Colombia game.

Morocco became the first Arab team to win a game at the Women’s World Cup with a 1-0 win over South Korea, with Nouhaila Benzina making an individual slice of history too.

Switzerland drew 0-0 with the Football Ferns which was enough to see them top Group A while Norway thrashed the Philippines 6-0 to get their campaign back on track.

Magull turned creator at the end of the first half as her pass in the box found a Colombian touch and then Popp who volleyed over.

With 53 minutes gone, 18-year-old Linda Caicedo set the game alight with a stunning turn and strike to send the Colombia fans inside the Sydney Football Stadium wild.

Germany were rattled and it was no more evident than when Popp sent a free-kick high over the bar, before Klara Buehl struck another set-piece straight into the wall.
