College punter suffers nightmare night with two horror plays in 56-10 defeat
South Carolina State punter Dyson Roberts had a night to forget during the opening game of their season in college football.
College sports are certainly different in America from the vast majority of places around the world. As they essentially act as an interview for those in the professional game for them to see what you can do and whether or not you’ll be able to make it on the big stage.
It means that you really have to give it your all every single week, because one bad performance could see you slide down the draft board of some sides in the big leagues, and one monster display could see you begin your road to superstardom.
However for Dyson Roberts as his South Carolina State Bulldogs took on the University of Central Florida Knights, this was a night that he probably wished he stayed at home rather than putting on his pads and cleats, as he had two moments to forget as his side went down by a score of 56-10.
In perhaps one of the more bizarre moments that you are ever likely to see on a football field, either in college or on the professional level, Roberts made his first error of the night after what looked like it might be a very effective trick play by running a fake punt.
Just one problem, once he got past the line of scrimmage, he decided to boot the ball away, which would work quite well in rugby, but is illegal in American Football:
"If you're confused watching, so are we."
