College probe after social media post appears to show teacher launching foul-mouthed rant over student's handwriting

A college has launched an investigation after a social media post appeared to show a teacher launching a foul-mouthed rant over a student's handwriting, asking: "Are you f******g r******d?"

The clips feature a person commenting on the writing of someone said to be a pupil at AldridgeUTC@MediaCityUK, based at Salford Quays.

The clips - stitched together into one video before being circulated on other platforms - have been strongly condemned by the college principal, who confirmed an inquiry is underway.

In the post, the person is heard speaking, with sheets of writing in view.

They say: "This f*****g child will not stop writing in caps.

"They've left a little note: 'I hate writing in lower case, it doesn't look right'."

The person then exclaims: "Are you f*****g r******d?"

In another clip, the person says: "So [they've] actually got the person that sits next to her doing it as well. I've had enough.

"Literally I want to mark [them] down, because it's s**t content anyway, and then put a comment next to it saying 'would have given you higher marks, but because it doesn't look right, because you're f*****g special."

Principal Colin Grand said: "I can confirm we are aware of a video circulating on social media, which is not reflective of the professionalism or practice of the UTC and we are unable to comment further whilst an ongoing investigation is taking place."

The college is for 14 to 18 year-olds and opened in 2015.
