Coleman confirms scan shows no cruciate damage

Republic of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman has eased fears on the injury he suffered on Monday playing for Everton against Leiciester City.

The veteran defender collided with opposition midfielder Boubakary Soumare just before the break at the King Power Stadium, resulting in a lengthy stoppage before he departed the field of play.

Coleman had missed the Toffees' last three league encounters with a hamstring injury.

There were concerns he had damaged his cruciate ligament or suffered a broken leg. But the former Sligo Rovers man has issued an update this morning.

It read: "Just wanted to update you all, thanks so much for all the well wishes, just back from my scan & pleased to say I have no ACL damage. Be back soon".

Everton are battling for survival in the Premier League with four games remaining, while there are also June fixtures for Ireland against Greece and Gibraltar in the bid to qualify for Euro 2024.

Coleman is out of contract this summer.

No timeframe has been given for his return from the injury.
