Cole Palmer reveals Pep Guardiola discussions as controversial Chelsea transfer decision explained

Cole Palmer has revealed why he decided to leave Manchester City and join Chelsea. The 21-year-old midfielder swapped the Etihad Stadium for Stamford Bridge in the final hours of the summer transfer window despite a promising start to the campaign for Pep Guardiola's side.

Palmer played a crucial role for City in both the Community Shield and the UEFA Super Cup, scoring a goal in each tie. In spite of his impressive performances, one of which secured his boyhood club a piece of silverware, he was dropped from the starting lineup on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

The youngster was given just a 10 minute cameo against Burnley. Palmer was then an unused substitute in each of City's next two games before deciding to join Chelsea in pursuit of first-team football – and he hasn't looked back since.

He's featured 23 times for the Blues in the English top flight this term, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists. Despite some poor results, Palmer has been a shining light for Chelsea, earning himself a couple of senior caps for England.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football show, the midfielder was quizzed on his decision to join the west London outfit. Palmer said: "I thought I was ready to play football week in, week out and that is the reason why I came.
