Cody Simpson and Emma McKeon confront love triangle with Kyle Chalmers

They might be Australia's latest golden couple of the pool, but there has been some troubled water surrounding the relationship of former pop star Cody Simpson and 11-time Olympic medallist Emma McKeon.

The couple are enjoying time together in Europe ahead of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games where they will both compete.

However, their new love has been over-shadowed by claims McKeon's ex-boyfriend and fellow member of Team Australia Kyle Chalmers blocked Simpson's entry into the ranks of the Dolphins. 

Both Simpson and McKeon will speak about their love triangle, Chalmers, swimming and more on 7NEWS Spotlight tonight and Daily Mail Australia has been given early access to their interview.

Simpson was sensationally blocked by Kyle Chalmers after sacrificing his rising music career to train for the his first love, swimming.

Chalmers had originally made the decision to not travel to Hungary for the world championships earlier this year, but back-flipped after the fact Simpson was dating his ex-girlfriend McKeon became public.

At the time, Chalmers vehemently opposed suggestions his backflip was due to a personal vendetta against Simpson. He then squandered his opportunity in Hungary, finishing 22nd in the field for men's 100m butterfly and missing the semi-finals.

Now Chalmers will aim for the world's fastest 100 metre freestyle time at the Commonwealth Games in the same team as the glamour couple.

McKeon will be looking to add to her record haul of 12 medals - including eight medals - from the last two Commonwealth Games.

Simpson took part in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as part of the entertainment and this time around will get to compete in the pool.
