Club figure makes Birmingham City transfer revelation

Birmingham Live

There have been plenty of transfers that simply haven’t worked out for the Blues over the past few years – a problem which has also been made more complicated by the turnover of managers.

The Midlands outfit were busy during the January window just gone, however there is clearly an ambition to have a more uniform approach to how players are signed and then developed.

That’s where Gardner’s role as technical director comes into play and he has now admitted that big changes are being planned for the future of the club on a transfer front as he stated the following recently:

“We are looking at doing a big overhaul to the recruitment department.

“We need to change what happened before. There was not really a recruitment department, there were recruitment people but whether they were listened to is a different story.”

Birmingham have brought in no less than 13 new players this season, with most of the new arrivals coming in the form of loan deals.

Meanwhile a plethora of other players have gone the other way as Lee Bowyer has looked to shape the squad to his liking.

The Verdict

Having a proper and structured approach to signing players is key to the success of any club moving forwards and it is clearly something that the Blues have needed for quite some time.

They have been guilty of making major errors in the market and now need to look at signing players that can have a long term impact rather than a short term one.

Gardner is clearly good for the club and will bring fresh ideas to the table that should take them to the next level.

It shows that the Blues are already thinking beyond this season.
