Class of 2007: White's World Cup-winning Springboks to be inducted into SA Hall of Fame

Former Springbok coach Jake White and the Rugby World Cup-winning squad of 2007, which was captained by John Smit, will be inducted into the SA Hall of Fame.

Other notable SA Hall of Fame inductees include Gary Player, Bobby Locke, Sally Little, Lucas Radebe, Penny Heyns, Jomo Sono, Brian Mitchell, Jacob Matlala and Joost van der Westhuizen.

White, who currently coaches the Bulls and is regarded as one of the best rugby coaches of his time, steered the Springboks to victory in the 2007 Rugby World Cup, bringing home the Webb Ellis Cup for the second time in South Africa's rugby history.

"His tactical brilliance, leadership skills, and unwavering commitment to nurturing the team's potential are emblematic of the values that the South African Hall of Fame stands for," a statement read.

The Springboks lifted the Webb Ellis trophy following a 15-6 victory against England in the final in Paris.

"Their outstanding achievements and relentless pursuit of excellence have not only left an indelible mark on South African rugby but have also united the entire country in celebration.

"The 2007 World Cup Springboks displayed immense courage, determination and teamwork throughout the tournament.

"Their unforgettable performance on the field not only brought joy to millions of rugby fans but also fostered a sense of national pride and unity during a pivotal moment in South Africa's history."

Smit's men join the 1995 World Cup-winning Springbok squad, led by then captain Francois Pienaar.

The induction ceremony will take place at Montecasino on 16 August with esteemed rugby personalities and former South African president Thabo Mbeki expected to be in attendance.
