Clare prevail but Shane O'Donnell sees room for improvement

Clare's Shane O'Donnell admits there is room for improvement after the Banner were reliant on a late Mark Rodgers '65 to edge out Waterford in a topsy-turvy Munster SHC clash.

Player of match O'Donnell was instrumental in Clare collecting the two points, but admitted it was a game of two halves as they led 2-10 to 0-08 at the interval.

"I think Waterford were the better team in the second half. I don't think anyone would doubt that," he told RTÉ Sport.

"I felt we were making the opportunities but just not taking them. I think our wide count for the first 10 minutes, I can't put a number on it but probably five or six. With probably one score, just being the goal.

"It certainly wasn't how we wanted to do it, starting the game."

O'Donnell acknowledged the enormity of the occasion for the Clare panel week: "Tipp will looking at this thinking of all the opportunities they have playing against us."

O'Donnell once again attributed his recent form to his mental state due to a trimmed down season, and says a key factor to Clare's form this year is the panel of players available to Brian Lohan.

Speaking after the match, the Clare manager said the wides tally isn't of major concern ahead of next week's fixture with Tipperary.

"We would love to be putting every ball over the bar," he told RTÉ Sport.

"Up against quality opponents you are going to have wides, you are under pressure. Second half of the game, You are a little bit more tired, wides tend to happen. Something we have to work on, but not too upset about it."
