Cincinnati Bengals penalised in Super Bowl after injured star ran onto field
The Cincinnati Bengals were hit with one of the most unusual penalties in Super Bowl history - after an unkitted player ran onto the field.
Cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III was inactive for the big game but was watching on from the sidelines in training gear.
When Jessie Bates intercepted Matthew Stafford in the end zone in the second quarter, Hargreaves ran from the bench and onto the field to celebrate with his team-mates.
And his actions landed the Bengals a taunting penalty - which meant Joe Burrow and the offence started the next drive 10 yards further back.
Instead of having the ball at their own 20 yard line, they were placed at the 10 yard line and eventually punted the ball back to the Rams.
NFL Officiating explained on Twitter: "After the interception by CIN 30, a non-uniformed member of the team enters the field of play to celebrate. This is a foul for unsportsmanlike conduct."
