Christian Horner has called for a better support network around F1's Race Director in 2022
Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner has said that he would like to see an improved support network for the Formula 1 Race Director in 2022, whether that be Michael Masi or not.
The 2021 season ended in hugely dramatic and controversial circumstances back at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December, with Max Verstappen taking the Drivers’ crown on the final lap of the race from Lewis Hamilton.
Indeed, that stemmed from Michael Masi deciding to bring in the Safety Car for one final flying lap, with him only allowing the lapped cars between Hamilton and Verstappen through before sending everyone off.
Certainly, it was an interpretation of the rules that left many scratching their heads, and since we have seen the FIA launch an investigation into what happened, with their results and action points set to be laid out fully before the start of the 2022 season.
Naturally, though, many in the sport have already had their say on what they would like to see happen and Horner has been among them, with him hoping the Race Director for 2022, whether that is Masi or not, will have a bigger support network around him during races:
