Christian Horner delivers positive update on new Red Bull car's performance

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has said that the early feedback he is getting from his drivers on their new car is positive as pre-season testing continues in Barcelona.

The RB18 broke cover properly on Wednesday morning with the car looking a great deal different to what it had at the Red Bull launch earlier on in February.

Indeed, some dramatic undercuts to the sidepods got particular attention and it remains to be seen if they’ve pulled off a stroke of genius with the move, as the new regulations come into play in Formula 1 for 2022.

Of course, it’s early days and testing is only a vague barometer of performance for the rest of the season but Horner seems happy enough with what he has heard from his drivers in the embryonic stages of F1 2022:

”I think the team have done a wonderful job, obviously balancing the pressures of last year and developing the current car. We don’t know how quick it is, but the initial feedback is positive.

“It looks different to our competitors but only time will tell if we’ve got it right. Max was happy with the balance this morning. It’s a get to know it process, before they get to work on performance.”

As mentioned, it is early days and the teams will likely be keeping their power dry until at least the Bahrain test before they start really showing off their true performance.

The Red Bull is certainly an eye-catching car, though, and Horner will hope their design route is going to pay dividends.
