Chris Kirchner provides promising update on Derby County takeover

Derby County prospective owner Chris Kirchner has rejected suggestions that his takeover bid has stalled and claimed that work is being done every day but there are “a lot of pieces to pull together”. 

Kirchner was selected as the preferred bidder on the 6th of April after reigniting his interest in the club and is now in a period of exclusivity that expires on the 7th of May – the final day of the season.

Reports on Saturday suggested his takeover bid could be in doubt but in a Twitter Q&A yesterday, Kirchner rejected claims that the deal had stalled.

The Rams are on course to be relegated to League One this season but Kirchner has also suggested that Wayne Rooney has informed him he will be staying on as manager to help rebuild the club ahead of next season.

Despite operating with a threadbare squad and being deducted 21 points this term, Rooney nearly led Derby to what would have been a remarkable escape from relegation.

The Verdict

This looks like a promising update for Derby fans.

There will have been fresh concern when the reports over the weekend emerged and with a lack of significant progress in the last few days but it appears things are still moving forward behind the scenes.

Kirchner is trying to be open and honest with the fans, which is not something they’ve had a huge amount of during the nearly seven months of administration.

Supporters will be cautious to get too excited as there have been plenty of false dawns before but the American businessman is certainly making all the right noises.
