China 'blocks' broadcast of Aston Villa and Wolves matches
This weekend’s Premier League matches – including the games involving Aston Villa and Wolves – will not be broadcast in China because of a planned show of support for Ukraine.
As global outcry towards Russia’s invasion continues, the top-flight and its clubs will unite to show their solidarity with Ukraine.
It will include captains wearing special armbands in Ukrainian colours, while stadium screens will display 'Football Stands Together' in front of the country's blue and yellow flag.
The Premier League has said it wholeheartedly rejects Russia's actions and is set to show solidarity with Ukraine.
"We call for peace and our thoughts are with all those who have been impacted," it added, when announcing the plans earlier this week.
As a result, Chinese rights holders have told the Premier League they will not broadcast Premier League matches this weekend, reports the BBC.
China is a close ally of Vladimir Putin and the Russian regime.
The Premier League declined to comment when asked by the BBC about the Chinese refusal to show matches.
On Saturday, Villa host Southampton while Wolves are at home to Crystal Palace.
