Chiefs slump to fourth consecutive loss as Cape Town City ransack FNB and the three points

Kaizer Chiefs suffered their fourth consecutive defeat when they went down 2-1 to Cape Town City at the FNB stadium on Saturday.

It has been a nightmare start for interim head coach Arthur Zwane who took over head coaching duties following the sacking of Stuart Baxter earlier this month.

Cape Town City came into the contest having held league champions Mamelodi Sundowns to a goalless draw on Wednesday while Chiefs went down 2-1 to Golden Arrows on the same day.

And, it was the visitors who made a good start as Craig Martin gave them the lead in the 14th minute, taking advantage of some slack defending.

A long hopeful ball from the back by Taariq Fielies looked innocuous as Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso seemingly had it covered but the centre-back hesitated thinking his goalkeeper Brandon Peterson will collect and the mix-up allowed Martin to ghost in and score.

The Citizens got their second goal on the hour mark when left-back Terrence Mashego found himself in a huge amount of space in the box and fired in a shot from a narrow angle that Peterson parried into the back of the net.

Amakhosi were stunned into action with Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly starting to have an influence on proceedings but could not break down a stubborn City defence.

Substitute Dumisani Zuma pulled a goal back for the Soweto giants with seven minutes remaining, netting the rebound after Billiat had his initial effort saved by City shot-stopper Hugo Marques.

Zuma had an opportunity to equalise in the final minute but Marques stepped up to save and ensure the visitors take all three points back to the Western Cape.

Amakhosi remain fifth on the league standings following the loss while City move up to third place with four games of the campaign still
