Chiefs' season on a knife-edge: Zwane vows to 'get it right' in crucial Glam-or-Glum Boys run-in

Kaizer Chiefs have six matches remaining in the 2022/23 season, but they have the potential to add two fixtures to their schedule depending on the outcome of their Nedbank Cup quarter-final tie this weekend against Royal AM in KwaZulu-Natal.

There is a lot at stake for the Soweto giants.

Their next six, possibly seven and eight, matches could be a critical turning point for the club and the man shouldering all the pressure, Arthur Zwane.

How they fare in their season-ending run-in is crucial in changing the perception of a rollercoaster campaign to one of a far more respectable hue.

There is much to gain, but much that could easily still be lost.

They are still in contention to finish among the top four in the DStv Premiership, but only a runner-up finish behind champions Sundowns will do if they want automatic qualification to next year's CAF Champions League. 

And they would remain in the running for silverware, which would end an eight-year trophy drought, should they survive the last eight knockout bout against Royal AM in the Nedbank Cup this weekend.

When Zwane sits in the iconic Chatsworth Stadium dugout on Saturday, he would have been in charge of the club's senior team for 322 days.

A club legend himself, Zwane has had to navigate life a little differently as coach.

Being in the Amakhosi hot seat has a spotlight that does not dim. Whether winning or losing, it shines equally bright, which is unfortunate for Zwane, but that comes with the magnitude of the job itself.

Zwane has overseen 25 DStv Premiership matches and five cup fixtures (MTN8 and Nedbank Cup) for a total of 30 games this season, and he has come under fire for a chunk of those matches.
