Chicharito takes contender for worst penalty of 2022 in LA Galaxy 2-2 Sporting KC
Javier Hernandez – or Chicharito, as he’s often referred to – spurned the chance to complete his hat-trick and, more importantly, secure all three points for LA Galaxy by taking one of 2022’s worst penalties.
The 34-year-old, best known for his five-year spell with Manchester United between 2010-2015, had scored an emphatic spot-kick less than 10 minutes earlier when his team were awarded a dramatic late penalty by referee Ramy Touchan.
Chicharito had opened the scoring against Sporting KC with a cool finish in the fourth minute before second-half goals from Johnathon Russell and Felipe Hernandez put the visitors 2-1 up at the Dignity Health Sports Park.
The Mexican forward levelled the scores with an excellent penalty in the 88th minute and was then presented with a golden opportunity to win the game for his team when LA Galaxy were awarded a second spot-kick.
Chicharito went for the Panenka but got it horribly, horribly wrong.
Goalkeeper John Pulskamp couldn’t believe his luck as the ball landed perfectly into his hands.
