Chennai Open: Czech girl Linda Fruhvirtova wins maiden WTA title

Right from the first set, Linda was under pressure from her 30-year-old opponent. The youngster was able to fight back the first two times she was pushed to a corner. Magda had a triple break point in the third game of that set but Linda staved off the challenge to hold serve for a 2-1 lead. If that wasn't enough, in the fifth game --- Magda had a breakpoint but Linda once again held her ground for a 3-2 lead. However, Magda finally broke her opponent in the 9th game to go 5-4 up. Magda then went on to wrap up the first set on her first set point in 57 minutes.

The second set saw Linda get back into the contest in style. Linda pressed the accelerator in the 8th game as she broke her opponent for a 5-3 lead. After the fifth game in that set, Magda took a medical timeout for 7 minutes which seemed to have slowed her down. Linda held her serve in the 6th game and made a comeback into the contest by breaking Magda in the 7th. Linda levelled the third set 4-4 after winning the 8th game. Linda took a big step towards the title when she broke Magda in the 9th game for a 5-4 lead. Linda then closed out the contest on her first match point. “It's never easy to take a loss. I felt Linda played more aggressively and very well in the end. I congratulate her on the win,” Magda said after the match.
