Chelsea would be "interested" in 344-goal star, Tuchel wanted him more than Lukaku - journalist
Chelsea would be “hugely interested” in signing Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski although the Blues might now have missed their chance, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.
The Poland international has been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge in this window as he edges closer to ending his eight-year affiliation with the Bundesliga champions.
Despite the experienced striker favouring a move to Barcelona, the Guardian revealed last month that Chelsea are also in the race for his signature.
The report states that Blues boss Thomas Tuchel wanted to bring him to Chelsea in 2021, before the club ended up signing Romelu Lukaku for a club record fee.
Lewandowski is approaching the final 12 months of his contract and has openly said that he wants to leave the German outfit.
“One thing is certain today, my story with Bayern is over,” he said. “After everything that has happened in recent months, I cannot imagine further good co-operation. I realise a transfer will be the best solution for both sides.”
But Barcelona are in the driving seat to land the Pole, who has scored an incredible 344 goals in his eight seasons at the Allianz Arena, and Brown fears that Tuchel’s side could miss out on his services.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “I’m pretty sure that Tuchel wanted Lewandowski more than he ever wanted Lukaku when Lukaku signed, so he’s clearly a player they would be hugely interested in.
“But like Raphinha, he has already made his mind up to go somewhere else, so it might be too late to get in on that market now.”
