Chelsea: 'World-class' £185k-a-week star could land at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea signing Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer ‘wouldn’t surprise’ Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The Blues are believed to be in the market for attacking reinforcements following the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner to Inter Milan and RB Leipzig, respectively.

Despite Aubameyang only signing for Barca in January, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reported that Chelsea are ‘now considering’ a bid for him.

It’s claimed that ‘discussions’ have already taken place with the 33-year-old as Thomas Tuchel steps up his efforts to bring a new striker into Stamford Bridge before the window closes on September 1.

However, Romano has now revealed that Barcelona are only willing to allow one of Memphis Depay and Aubameyang to depart the Camp Nou.

Robert Lewandowski’s arrival from Bayern Munich has forced both players down Xavi’s pecking order, but the Poland international will still need a back-up in what is set to be a congested campaign.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Bridge said: “I think they’ll look to add someone whether it’s Depay or Aubameyang.

“Barcelona are such a curious case, and they’re still looking to bring in Bernardo Silva even though we read one day that they’re trying to get players to take wage cuts, taking some of their own players to court, it’s unbelievable what’s going on at Barcelona Football Club.

“The treatment of some players leaves a lot to be desired from what you read, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping them from spending.
