Chelsea will look to extend £110k-a-week star's contract at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea can get another year out of defender Thiago Silva, believes journalist Simon Phillips.

The Brazilian turned 38 last month, but Phillips can still see the west London club handing him a new deal.

Silva, who joined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2020, is out of contract next summer.

He signed an extension in January and was delighted that he was able to prolong his stay at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to the club’s official website at the time, the centre-back said: “To play here with Chelsea is a real pleasure. I never thought I would play for three years here in this great club, so I’m very happy to stay for another season.”

Silva later went on to add: “It’s amazing to have this relationship with the fans and not only that but the players, staff and the whole club. I’m going to give everything to keep playing at this level in the most important league in the world.”

Phillips thinks Chelsea will extend Silva’s contract. The journalist is also confident that the likes of Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly can learn from the Brazil international.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Phillips said: “I think Chelsea could probably get another year out of him, and I think they’ll look to extend it another year. Fofana can lean on him for experience and also Koulibaly, coming to a new league.

“He’s obviously not as young as Fofana, but he can lean on Silva and take the reins off of Silva if you like, to play in that central centre-back position, and he could certainly do with Thiago Silva’s words of advice right now as he tries to settle in a new league.”
