Chelsea Will Not Wear Golden Badge For Winning Club World Cup In Premier League

Chelsea have been told who will referee the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool at the end of the month, as well as the official in charge of VAR.

Stuart Atwell will be tasked with keeping the peace on the Wembley Stadium pitch and his previous encounters with the Blues have not ended favourably for Thomas Tuchel's side.

Of the 14 games he has taken charge of, Chelsea have won four while Liverpool have only lost once out of 15 games Atwell has refereed.

Atwell was the referee in Chelsea's 3-0 win over Aston Villa earlier this season, the only time he has officiated a Blues game this season.

But the end of last season was a different matter, as Atwell sent off club captain Cesar Azpilicueta in a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa. The defender was adjudged to have struck Jack Grealish in the face.

However, the Blues appealed the three-match ban given to Azpilicueta after the game and were successful, seeing his red card overturned and the suspension that was due for the start of the 2021/22 season cancelled.
