Chelsea v Spurs: Mourinho chasing Eric Dier after he left the pitch is still epic
Chelsea will take on Tottenham for the first time this season when the two sides meet in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
One of the most fierce rivalries in the English top-flight, passions are always high whenever the Blues take on Spurs – and we’ve seen plenty of flashpoints over the years.
Indeed, ‘The Battle of the Bridge’ in 2016 – where a staggering 13 yellow cards were handed out – might be the most controversial game in Premier League history.
However, no matter how intense the action is this weekend, something pretty remarkable will have to go down to beat the sheer randomness of Jose Mourinho’s interaction with Eric Dier during a League Cup tie between the two sides in 2020.
Entering the final 15 minutes of the round of 16 clash, Mourinho’s Tottenham side were trailing by a goal when defender Eric Dier suddenly sprinted off the pitch and down the tunnel.
Nobody knew what to make of the England international’s sudden departure – least of all his manager – but the controversial Portuguese coach wasted no time in going to investigate.
Abandoning his technical area while hollering “Eric”, Mourinho chased Dier into the dressing rooms, eager to discover why his man had abandoned his post without notice.
It made for a truly bizarre scene and you can check it out for yourself below.
