Chelsea told Kounde price as Sevilla ‘doomed to sell’

Chelsea have been told what they will ned to pay to sign Jules Kounde this summer, with Sevilla ‘doomed to sell’ their star asset to balance the books.

Kounde is Sevilla’s most saleable asset with the La Liga side requiring ‘big sales’ this summer after their ‘disappointing run’ in Europe.

GOAL’s Spanish edition (via Sport Witness) claim Sevilla had budgeted for €83.3m thanks to their involvement in the Champions League, but thanks to their early exit in that competition, followed by being dumped out of the Europa League by West Ham, they have just €46m to play with.

And the deficit will have to be made up though player sales to avoid posting accounts with losses.

The report describes Kounde as the ‘best option’ for sale, but Sevilla’s financial issues don’t offer Chelsea much hope of landing the defender on the cheap.

With 20% of any sale due to Bordeaux and Sevilla requiring €52m to obtain any profit on the sale itself, Sevilla want €60m for Kounde.

Whether Chelsea can pay the sum depends on the new owners and presumably whether they can persuade any of Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger or Andreas Christensen to stay at the club.

Christensen appears certain to leave the club with Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirming the club have secured two new signings ahead of next season.

Laporta said: “We’ve completed two signings for the next season. One is a midfielder, the other one is a centre-back. But I’m not allowed to mention their names.”

Barcelona have been frequently linked with Christensen, and the midfielder is thought to be Franck Kessie from AC Milan.
