Chelsea: Thomas Tuchel's comment to Todd Boehly about Cristiano Ronaldo

In case you weren’t aware, Thomas Tuchel has been sacked by Chelsea Football Club.

After the team’s 1-0 humiliation at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League group stage opener, new owner Todd Boehly made the decision to get rid of the German manager.

The news was made official by the club on Wednesday morning, much to the shock of football fans around the world.

So why did Chelsea choose to sack Tuchel? Well, their start to the 2022/23 season hasn’t been the best, despite the fact the club spent a record-breaking amount of money in the transfer market.

Chelsea have accrued just 10 points from their opening six games in the Premier League and currently sit outside the top four as a result of their inconsistent form.

But Tuchel’s dismissal was about far more than just performances on the pitch.

The relationship between the former Paris Saint-Germain boss and Boehly had deteriorated quite a bit behind-the-scenes, with Cristiano Ronaldo at the centre of the drama.

As we covered HERE, Boehly was eager to sign the Manchester United forward this summer, but Tuchel was strongly against the idea and favoured pursuing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang instead, who made his debut in the defeat to Zagreb.

And the German manager reportedly didn’t hold back in his assessment of how Ronaldo’s arrival would impact the Chelsea dressing room.

According to respected journalist Christian Falk, Tuchel told Boehly: “He [Ronaldo] will destroy the spirit in my dressing room.”
