Chelsea star Mount gives his verdict on Boehly’s takeover and Abramovich era
Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is excited for a new era at Stamford Bridge after an agreement for Todd Boehly’s takeover of the club was confirmed.
US magnate Boehly is now expected to complete his takeover of the west London club on Monday in what will be a sports franchise record deal of £4.25billion.
The takeover will bring to an end Russian-Israeli billionaire Roman Abramovich’s 19-year reign as Chelsea owner, which changed the landscape of English football.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 while taking in the Monaco Grand Prix qualifying alongside Tottenham defender Eric Dier, Mount said: “We were obviously in and around [the title race] until about midway through.
“Disappointing that we fell off a bit but that’s obviously the goal for next season, we want to close that gap. We want to be up there.
“It’s an exciting time now with the owners being confirmed today, going forward it’s going to be exciting and obviously the era under Roman has been brilliant. We look forward now and it’s exciting stuff, can’t wait to get back to it.”
Abramovich released a statement to supporters following the latest announcement, insisting it was the “honour of a lifetime” to serve Chelsea football club.
“It has been an honour of a lifetime to be a part of this club – I would like to thank all the club’s past and current players, staff, and of course fans for these incredible years,” Abramovich said in a statement on Chelsea’s website.
