Chelsea's Drew Spence recreates Real Madrid icon Guti’s famous back-heel assist
Chelsea Women are once again a hot topic after their dominant 5-0 win over Birmingham City secured their spot in the FA Cup semi-final.
Goals from Magdalena Eriksson, Drew Spence, Bethany England, and Niamh Charles made easy work of brushing aside the opposition.
While Spence got herself on the scoresheet, it was in fact her assist for England’s first goal that has stolen the spotlight and caused fans to double take.
Following a powerful drive with the ball into the box, the midfielder coaxed Marie Hourihan off her line, leaving an open net for England to capitalise on.
Spence delivered a stunning back-heel assist to the unmarked striker, who stroked the ball past the line to notch her side’s third goal of the afternoon.
The no-look pass has grabbed a lot of attention on social media, with many heaping praise on Spence for her instinct and selfishness. In fact, the Jamaican international has found herself being likened to Real Madrid legend Guti and his iconic assist, which was almost identical.
In 2010, the Spanish midfielder provided what has often been described as one of the greatest assists of all time.
Guti set up Karim Benzema to score against Deportivo de La Coruña, despite many expecting him to take the shot himself after working the ball into the box.
The similarities between Guti and Spence’s assists are unbelievable and it has blown the mind of many social media users.
