Chelsea prepare audition for Ben Chilwell heir so Thomas Tuchel can secure next £6m hidden gem

Thomas Tuchel can use Chelsea's FA Cup fifth-round clash against Luton Town as an opportunity to find the heir to Ben Chilwell's throne.

The Hatters have reaped great success from sales in recent years, raking in a combined £10m for Bournemouth's Jack Stacey and Leicester City's James Justin.

Brendan Rodgers found his eventual replacement for Chilwell at Kenilworth Road by signing Justin for just £6m, who, bar an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered in February 2021, has impressed for the Foxes and even flirted with a senior England call-up.

Chelsea, who were desperate to sign a left-back in January, could follow Leicester's transfer plan and look at Luton Town to find their own understudy to the England international.

Marcos Alonso has been a square peg in a round hole for the large part of Chilwell's absence, raising questions among the fanbase regarding the Spaniard's future.

Chilwell, who is expected to be out for the rest of the season through an ACL injury, provided Chelsea supporters with a positive update on his road to recovery.

Last month, the 25-year-old had been spotted back at Cobham to begin his rehabilitation on crutches and now looks to be stepping up his recovery after team-mate Callum Hudson-Odoi uploaded a short clip of him kicking a ball on Instagram.

While Chilwell looks set to be back and firing on all cylinders next season, the question marks raised amid his absence have seen fans demand that the world champions hand Tuchel a suitable standby option.

Chelsea's clash against Luton provides the Blues with an excellent chance to test the waters in Bedfordshire and find their own Justin, who too could 'learn so much' off Chilwell.
