Chelsea permitted to spend £900k to host games after licence amendment

The licence granted to Chelsea following the sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich by the UK Government appears to have been amended.

Under section 4.7 of the licence imposed on the club, Chelsea will be permitted to spend up to £900,000 when hosting games at Stamford Bridge. Previously, that had been set at £500,000.

A limit of £20,000 to spend on away fixtures, however, remains and that raises serious questions as to whether or not Chelsea will be able to fulfill their Champions League round-of-16 fixture away at Lille later this month.

On Saturday, Abramovich was disqualified as a director of the club by the Premier League while the club themselves remain in talks with the Government amid concerns the current terms of the licence are unworkable.

In terms of potential buyers, UK property tycoon Nick Candy has confirmed to Standard Sport his intention to go ahead with his pursuit of the club, while the US-Swiss consortium of Todd Boehly and Hansjorg Wyss has already tabled a bid.
