Chelsea 'interested' in £325k-a-week star after Ronaldo snub
Chelsea are interested in signing Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs when speaking to GiveMeSport earlier this week, although a move to Barcelona now appears to be advancing.
The Stamford Bridge outfit are still in the market for a frontman following the departure of Romelu Lukaku, and the Poland international has emerged as a potential replacement with Tuchel even hinting on Friday that he would be interested if a deal was possible.
According to the Mirror, Thomas Tuchel’s men have made a shock approach to sign the 33-year-old, who’s got just one year remaining on his Bayern contract and has expressed his desire to leave.
This comes after The Athletic revealed that Chelsea are no longer pursuing a deal for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Barcelona, who are Lewandowski’s preferred destination, appear to be in pole position to sign the ex-Borussia Dortmund star having launched a £34.4m bid for him last month.
Despite major doubts over his future, Lewandowski returned to training with Bayern earlier this week, although he reportedly ‘hardly spoke to his teammates‘.
But Jacobs said earlier this week that Chelsea were also in the running to sign the experienced frontman, who earns £325,000 per-week at the Allianz Arena, although now a move to Barcelona looks to be more likely as things stand.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “Chelsea are interested in Robert Lewandowski. The Bayern striker dreams of a move to Barcelona and has said openly that’s the only club he wants to join.
“That could mean he waits for the majority of the window to see if it’s possible, although Barca keep promising him they’ll get it done quicker than that.”
At this current moment, Barcelona are clear favourites to land the Pole.
