Chelsea could be left to rue January decision as target now wanted by Arsenal and Tottenham

Chelsea could be left to rue a January transfer decision with Arsenal and Tottenham now reportedly in the hunt for a defensive target too.

Thomas Tuchel was forced into just the one piece of business last month. He recalled Kenedy from his loan with Flamengo to ease the concerns on the left-side of the team after first-choice full-back Ben Chilwell was ruled out until the end of the season.

Before doing that, the Blues hierarchy considered signing a new defender. Marcos Alonso is now into his final 18 months of his contract.

So getting a new left-back in to replace him wouldn’t have been a bad idea.

One of the options they considered but ultimately didn’t pursue was Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa, 24.

He has impressed in the Bundesliga, with his goal contributions particularly eye-catching. Last season he set-up 10 goals for his team-mates.

It’s been more of the same this campaign, with two goals and six assists in 20 appearances across all competitions.

Sosa has earned himself his first five caps for Croatia. And he’s also attracting significant attention from the Premier League.

As well as Chelsea, BILD journalist Christian Falk has reported that their London rivals want him too.

He claims the Gunners and Spurs are interested in making a move in the summer. Both could be in the market for a new left-back.

Mikel Arteta doesn’t seem convinced by his current back-up Nuno Tavares. And the same can be said for Antonio Conte with Ryan Sessegnon.

As such, Chelsea, who also might be in the market again, could be left wishing they snatched up Sosa in the winter window.
