Chelsea, Al Ahli in last minute push for Osimhen

Super Eagles star, Victor Osimhen, may have decided to move to Saudi Arabia following his inability to secure a move to some of Europe’s big clubs in the current transfer window, which closes tomorrow. But reports have also emerged that Chelsea have begun a last minute move to take the Napoli star to England.

According to getfootballnewsitaly.com, the Napoli star forward seems to be on the cusp of departing the Partenopei in favour of a move to Saudi Arabia. The reports quotes European football expert, Gianluca Di Marzio, as saying that Al Ahli have improved on their previous bid to compete with Chelsea and PSG, adding that the Nigerian international has now agreed to move to Saudi Arabia.

With the striker’s seeming change of stance, the report said that some other Saudi teams have contacted Napoli with the player’s approval following Coach Antonio Conte’s insistence that he does not need the 25-year-old forward.

Osimhen’s departure will afford Napoli the extra cash-flow they require to unblock the mercato and possibly bring in additional reinforcements with much ease.

The latest development is contrary to Osimhen’s manager’s earlier stance that his player will not be forced to move to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli had, at the weekend, reached a €65 million agreement with Napoli for Osimhen’s signature. But the deal was rejected by the Nigerian star’s agent, Roberto Calenda, who told Napoli officials that the player will not accept any move to the Saudi Pro League.

Although Napoli did not react to the agent, the club has since made it clear that Osimhen is no longer in their plans. That means that Osimhen’s camp must find a new club for the Nigerian before the transfer window closes tomorrow.

Late yesterday, Di Mazio
