Chef Aiden Byrne announces shock departure from acclaimed pub

Award winning chef Aiden Byrne has made a shock announcement that he is leaving the gastropub he has run for the past 16 years. Aiden is chef patron of the Church Green pub, set in an idyllic location in Lymm in Cheshire.

Aiden and wife Sarah have run the pub together to huge acclaim since 2008, but say they've reached the "bittersweet decision" to now step away to "pursue other opportunities". They will leave in just ten days time, on May 19.

The couple made a "customer announcement" across their social channels on Wednesday night. It came as a shock to loyal customers who shared just how much they will miss the Byrnes at the pub.

They have confirmed that the pub will "continue to thrive" under the stewardship of a new owner. No further details on who that is have been announced, other than to say it is "another independent operator".

In the statement the couple said: "After 16 incredible years, Sarah and I have reached the bittersweet decision to step away from The Church Green on the 19th of May. This journey has been filled with countless memories, laughter, and shared moments that we will forever cherish.

"We want to extend our deepest gratitude to each one of you—our amazing customers, dedicated suppliers, and invaluable team members—for your unwavering support and commitment to TCG and the vibrant community of Lymm Village.

"Your patronage and friendship have been the heart and soul of this establishment, and we are endlessly grateful for the relationships we’ve built over the years.

"As we embark on this new chapter to pursue other opportunities, we leave knowing that The Church Green will continue to thrive under the care of another
