Charlton Athletic midfielder to be offloaded in triple exit for League One club
Charlton Athletic already know three players who will be shown the door during this summer transfer window, with London News Online reporting that three players will be let go at the end of the campaign.
The first of those three is Ben Watson, who has been with the club since 2020. During his two year stint with the Addicks though, he has only ever managed 44 appearances with one goal.
This campaign, he has also been limited to just nine showings in League One for the club and has instead had to make do with coming into the matchday squad to mainly sit on the bench. Rather than carry on as a bit-part player then, the 36-year-old will be heading out the door this summer.
He isn’t the only player that will reportedly exit now too – he looks set to be joined by Chris Gunter and Pape Souare too, who will both be allowed to leave when the season comes to a close.
The latter of the two has had as many league appearances as Watson this campaign with nine – and he’s only been at the club since the beginning of the season.
He hasn’t made too much of an impact though and will end up going out of the door at the Valley before he has even really settled in. As for Gunter, he has played a much bigger part.
The 32-year-old has played 18 times in the league this season, with one assist. He also remains an option for his country but has struggled to play as frequently for his club since a move to Charlton in 2020. Now, his time with the club looks set to come to an end.
It looks as though Jonnie Jackson is already preparing to sort the squad out to his liking then – and those three could be the first of a few that are shown the door in the transfer window.
The Verdict
The season might not be at an end yet but Johnnie Jackson already
