Charles Leclerc's Bahrain GP qualifying admission is ominous for the rest of the F1 field

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has sent an ominous warning to the rest of the Formula 1 field on the back of his pole position for the Bahrain Grand Prix, with him saying that he wasn’t happy with his driving over the course of qualifying and there’s a lot more to come.

The Monegasque has had to sit and watch as Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have battled it out for race victories in the last 12 months, with his Ferrari improving along the way but never really getting close to challenge for regular Grand Prix wins.

However, that appears to have changed for 2022 with the Prancing Horse looking a real thoroughbred and he’ll be eager to now convert pole into a first race win of the campaign tomorrow afternoon.

He’s warned the field, too, that there’s lots more to come from him and the Ferrari, and that he wasn’t completely happy with his performance on Saturday:

“It feels good! The last two years have been incredibly difficult for the team and we were quite hopeful that this new opportunity was an opportunity to be back at the front.

“We have worked extremely well as a team to find ourselves in a position to fight for better places.

“Very happy with today but it’s been a tricky qualifying session. I wasn’t completely happy with my driving but managed to do that lap in Q3 and we’re starting from pole, so very happy.

“From the driving point, it’s completely different compared to last year.

“Testing was very useful for this, I tried many different driving styles and I still need to find a perfect one. There’s definitely much more to come from us.”

Leclerc is an immensely talented driver and, with the right equipment, there is no reason why he cannot challenge for the world championship.
