Charles Leclerc not giving up on title hopes with motivated message for British Grand Prix

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc says that he is not giving up on the championship despite the recent misfortune he has suffered in the last few rounds.

The Monegasque has seen three potential victories evade him in recent weeks with two retirements from the lead in Spain and Azerbaijan, whilst a pit strategy malfunction in Monaco took P1 away from him.

Last time out in Canada, meanwhile, he started from P19 after incurring grid penalties thanks to changes to his Ferrari power unit following the Baku blowout, and so he could only finish 5th with title leader Max Verstappen winning the race.

The gap stands at 49 points between the Dutchman and Leclerc, then, with Sergio Perez 46 points off the current Drivers’ championship leader, but the Ferrari ace is not letting that get him down, saying that he and the team are focusing on winning at Silverstone and closing that gap down:

“We start again at Silverstone, where we will return to aim for victory.

“The championship is still long, the gap is 49 points: two wins and it’s done. Seriously, we have to concentrate on ourselves.”

Fans will remember last year when Verstappen had built a big lead, though not as big as this, before a dramatic incident in Silverstone opened the door for Lewis Hamilton to close the gap right down.

Of course, Max eventually won the championship but it proved that a big-looking points deficit can be eroded, and Leclerc will hope that the bad luck he has suffered of late will swing the other way over the course of the season.
