Charles Leclerc calls for meetings with Ferrari team to understand Monaco blunders
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc says the team's strategy issues at the Monaco Grand Prix will be discussed and sorted out so it does not happen again.
Leclerc led the Monaco GP for a significant time, having started his home race from pole position, but then, after the pit-stop phase, was passed by teammate Carlos Sainz and the Red Bull drivers Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen.
The race was eventually won by Perez, followed by Sainz and Verstappen, while Leclerc ended fourth.
Time to meet and assess
Looking back at what transpired during the race from his perspective, Leclerc said: "We just had to pit, obviously, and I think once I was in the pit lane, I got the message to stay out," Leclerc said.
"But it was too late for me to do anything else, so there's not much to add to that. Obviously, it was too late, but it's like this.
"The first pit-stop was the mistake that made us [lose] the lead and, and then the second one also, but it's like this. We'll work from there and get better."
Leclerc added that the Ferrari team would meet and assess the mistakes made during Sunday's race.
"I think the answers, we'll get them a bit later on," Leclerc explained. "I think, obviously, it was a complex situation, and we'll have quite a [few] meetings in the next few days to understand that as a team. We still need to discuss a bit more and to go a bit more into details."
In the current F1 standings, Leclerc sits nine points behind leader Verstappen, while race winner Perez is only six points behind Leclerc.
