Chance to see Ryder Cup golf star Darren Clarke in action in East Staffordshire

Golf enthusiasts wanting to see top stars of the game in action as they head to JCB for a tournament. Ryder Cup star Darren Clarke, as well as Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Colin Montgomerie and John Daly will all be making their way to the JCB Golf and Country Club to take part in a championship.

The JCB Championship will see international golfers competing for a total prize fund of £600,000 with all profits from the event being donated to JCB’s NSPCC Platinum Jubilee Appeal. Bosses have said it will also be a rare chance for spectators to have a day out at the course.

The event - part of the renowned Legends Tour - means famous stars from the world of golf will be heading to Rocester. Burton golf professional Daniel Bourne will be among those on hand to welcome the stars. The 25-year-old is one of two golf pros at the club opposite to JCB’s World Headquarters at Rocester, and he is on course to play his part in making the first JCB Championship a success when it takes place from Friday to Sunday, July 29 to 31.

With the countdown now on to the event, Daniel is urging golf fans to flock to the JCB fairways and watch the professionals in action. Daniel, of Burton, graduated from Birmingham University with a degree in Applied Golf Management before turning professional.

He went on to work as a professional at clubs in the United States, New Zealand and Surrey before moving back to his home county and joining the JCB Golf and Country Club team. He said: "This is definitely going to be the biggest event we have hosted so far at the club and it is a brilliant opportunity for local people to see a spectacular championship course.
