Championship wrap: Obafemi double sinks Coventry

Michael Obafemi scored twice as Swansea dented Coventry's Sky Bet Championship play-off hopes with a 3-1 win in south Wales.

Republic of Ireland international Obafemi grabbed two goals in a seven-minute spell either side of half-time after also setting up Jamie Paterson's early opener at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Apart from Gustavo Hamer's 84th-minute goal, they were outplayed by their hosts six places below them.

Swansea manager Russell Martin had said after the midweek victory against West Brom that he was keen to make Cyrus Christie's loan deal from Fulham permanent, and Christie played a starring role on the right oif midfield.

Obafemi provided the assist for the opener and then plundered the second himself, using his pace to leave two defenders in his wake before tucking the ball into the corner and past goalkeeper Simon Moore.

Swansea wasted no time in extending their lead after the break. Matty Grimes stole possession from Ben Sheaf and swiftly released Obafemi. The Dublin man held his nerve to calmly claim his second less than two minutes into the second half.

Fulham moved nine points clear at the top of the table with a 2-0 victory over promotion rivals Blackburn.

Both goals came in the first half as Neeskens Kebano and Harry Wilson struck at Craven Cottage.

Rovers, beaten 7-0 last time the sides met, rallied after the break and Sam Gallagher had an effort disallowed due to an offside flag but Fulham held on.

Bournemouth missed the chance to move above Huddersfield into second as they were stunned by a late Preston winner in an eventful finish at Deepdale.

Emil Riis struck in the 89th minute to hand Preston a 2-1 win moments after Nat Phillips had forced a fine save from Daniel Iversen at the other end.
