Championship round-up: Plymouth record first win under Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney celebrated his first win as Plymouth boss after skipper Joe Edwards' stoppage-time effort clinched a 3-2 victory to halt Sunderland’s winning start.

Edwards lashed home a rebound in the third minute of added time after Romaine Mundle’s late equaliser appeared to have earned Sunderland a point.

Daniel Ballard’s own goal and Ryan Hardie’s penalty had seen Plymouth come back from behind after Patrick Roberts’ first-half penalty for the Black Cats.

It was the Pilgrims’ first league win under Rooney, who was appointed manager in May, while Sunderland remain top of the table.

Blackburn climbed up to second in the table as Yuki Ohashi scored a second-half brace in a 3-0 home win against Bristol City.

Lewis Travis’ effort from outside the box put Blackburn ahead at the interval and summer signing Ohashi notched his fourth and fifth goals of the season as Rovers extended their unbeaten start.

Hollywood actor Will Ferrell saw Leeds slip to their first league defeat of the season as Burnley’s Luca Koleosho scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at Elland Road.

Koleosho struck in the first half and although defender Bashir Humphreys was sent off on the closing stages for a second yellow card, the Clarets held on to climb up to second in the table.

Ferrell, one of several high-profile investors in Leeds, watched on from the directors’ box as the home side failed to break through a resolute Burnley defence.

Two goals in stoppage time ensured a thrilling end to the game as Sheffield Wednesday drew 1-1 with QPR at Hillsborough.

Owls captain Barry Bannan thought he had given his side victory with a superb finish but substitute Alfie Lloyd scrambled in an equaliser with the last kick of the match.
