Championship round-up: Egan's Blades go back on top of table

Sheffield United returned to the top of the Sky Bet Championship table with a 2-0 victory at Hull.

Oli McBurnie fired in the opener after 20 minutes, a right-footed strike that bounced beneath Hull keeper Matt Ingram, for his third goal in as many games.

Sander Berge sealed the three points 15 minutes from time, the win also marking the Blades' first away victory of the season.

Kerryman John Egan was a rock at the centre of a back-three for the away side while Ciaran Clark and Enda Stevens both missed out through injury. For the hosts, former under-21 international Sean McLoughlin made an appearance off the bench.

Reading remained two points behind the league leaders in third place after defeating Stoke 2-1, with Lucas Joao netting twice for the hosts on his 29th birthday.

It took just two minutes for the Angola international to open the scoring when he took advantage of poor Stoke defending to beat visiting keeper Jack Bonham.

Ben Wilmot levelled before the break but the Stoke defender was then punished by referee David Coote for his 57th-minute challenge on Joao as Reading were awarded a penalty.

Joao wasted no time in bagging his brace from the spot to seal victory for Paul Ince's side.

Jeff Hendrick played the full 90 in the centre of the park for Reading while Shane Long put a shift in before being called ashore with 20 minutes to play.

For Stoke, Will Smallbone - capped several times at underage level - made a start while keeper Bonham is a former youth international.

Also on Sunday, Blackpool claimed a 1-0 win at struggling Huddersfield thanks to a 38th-minute effort from Wolves loanee Theo Corbeanu, who pounced on the rebound after Ian Poveda's effort hit the post.
