Championship: London claim second win of season & Widnes suffer late heartbreak

London Broncos secured their second win of the Championship season with a 26-18 victory away at Dewsbury Rams.

The Broncos jumped above their opposition to sit 12th in the Championship league table and outside the relegation zone for the first time this season. Coach-less Dewsbury now sit below them, having claimed just four points so far this season.

Meanwhile, Widnes suffered a late defeat at home to York. Matty Marsh scored in the 74th minute to give the travelling Knights a 16-14 victory, with Jamie Ellis kicking the winning conversion.

The Vikings had led 14-4 at half-time in Danny Craven’s 200th career appearance. However, second-half tries from Joe Brown and Marsh saw them return to Yorkshire with the two points. Winger Brown also crossing in the first half.

Barrow Raiders secured a 58-0 victory away at Cumbrian rivals Workington Town. Jarrod Sammut, Matty Costello and Tee Ritson all crossing for a brace. Tries also from skipper Jarrad Stack, Luke Cresswell and returning centre Hakim Miloudi. Workington sit at the bottom of the table with just one win.

Batley Bulldogs also scored 58 points at home to Newcastle Thunder. Craig Lingard’s side scoring 10 tries and scoring 46-unanswered points in the second half for a 58-18 score.

Tries from Ben Tibbs, James Woodburn-Hall, Lachlan Walmsley and Dan Murray saw Halifax Panthers defeat Whitehaven 24-12.  Jonty Gorley’s side had led 12-6 at half-time at home.

Bradford Bulls bounced back from their Monday night 58-12 defeat to table toppers Featherstone with a 30-10 victory away at Sheffield Eagles. Tries from David Foggin-Johnston, Corey Johnson, Ryan Millar (2) and the returning Brandon Pickersgill.
