Champions League draw RECAP Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea discover quarter final opponents

Manchester City will face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter finals as they learned their potential path to the final in Paris.

City beat Sporting in the last-16 thanks to a 5-0 first leg victory in Lisbon followed by a professional 0-0 draw at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola was critical of his side after the first leg, despite their big lead, but he was ultimately delighted to book a place in the Champions League last eight once again.

Now attention turns to the quarter finals, with big clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus exiting in the last round. Despite that, City were still given a tough test as they were drawn to face Atletico Madrid in the last-eight, who beat United in the last round.

The draw also showed City their potential path to the final, with the semi-final and final draws confirmed. City avoided the possibility of a triple-header with Liverpool (as both quarter final legs dall either side of April's Premier League meeting), but could face Jurgen Klopp's side in the final.

Recap the draw as it happened live below:

Manchester City will break new ground in the Champions League quarter-finals after being drawn against Atletico Madrid.

The Blues have never faced the Spanish side before, but will take them on at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg and at the Wanda Metropolitano in the second leg. The two legs come either side of the Premier League showdown with Liverpool.

If the Blues get through, they could get a chance to avenge last season's final defeat, as they will face the winners of the last eight tie between Chelsea and Real Madrid in the semi-final. City lost to the Londoners in Porto last season despite starting as firm favourites.
