Celtic star ready for emotion to kick in ahead of final Scotland encounter

Celtic defender Stephen Welsh says it will perhaps feel emotional when the full-time whistle blows against Denmark on Scotland u21s duty tonight.

The centre-back from Coatbridge - who has recently captained the nation's elite youth side - will pull on the shirt one more time as a youngster tonight in their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier.

Scotland can only finish as high as third in Group I and face a tough test against the Danes, who've only lost once in this section, although a 0-0 draw with leaders Belgium this month provides confidence.

Welsh will not longer be eligible for the team after tonight's match so this will prove to be his last game for Scot Gemmill's side.

It's been a good term at club level after winning the Celtic Academy Player of the Year on top of a Premiership and League Cup double.

Now the Lanarkshire ace wants to end his national youth career on a high.

He told the BBC: "I think it's been a very positive season overall, tough as well physically for the boys, mentally too.

"Coming away now, we've got our last games of the campaign and we want to finish strong with a good couple of results.

"You just try and play the games and I'm sure by the end of the Denmark game it will fell like that (emotional) as it will be the last youth game I play for Scotland.

"It's been a while as I'm sure I started at u14s level. It's been eight years, some good games, some good memories. Some of the teams I've played have been good quality."
